Audio/Video Requirements for John Patrick

Audio videoThis section is for organizers of events where I have been engaged to be a presenter. If you want to insure maximum success please read the following carefully and confirm back to me that everything is ok. Any questions, please contact me. Following is a checklist that has been helpful for others.

checkmark A short technical rehearsal has been scheduled
checkmark Good quality audio system with stereo mini-jack to connect to ThinkPad
checkmark 1024 x 768 video projection system
checkmark Podium or stand with cable to reach to the projector

My presentations are made using OpenOffice Impress (this is similar to PowerPoint). All presentation content is stored locally on my own ThinkPad. It is not possible for the content of the presentation to be sent in advance or loaded onto any other PC. I give the presentation from the podium using my own ThinkPad. It can not be done by using a different PC or by placing the ThinkPad somewhere else and operating it via remote control.

Currently I am using an IBM ThinkPad T60p which I will have with me. A content rehearsal is not necessary but a brief technical rehearsal is desirable to make sure the projector hookup works. Ideally this will be done either the night before, 30 minutes before the presentation if first thing in the morning, or at coffee/lunch break otherwise.

Video
A large screen projection system is best. If this is not available a large (40+ inches) video monitor can suffice for a small audience. The video system should be able to handle output at 1024x768 (16,000 colors). The system should include a standard monitor cable that attaches to the CRT output jack of the ThinkPad. The cable needs to be able to reach to the podium I present from. A podium that is a minimum of 42" high is best. I'll be operating the ThinkPad myself. The ThinkPad cannot be behind stage or separated from me. If presenting from a table then a lectern stand (or cardboard box) to elevate the ThinkPad really helps so I don't have to bend over to operate the keyboard and trackpoint.
