Audio-video requirements

Audio-Video

This page is for organizers of events where I have been engaged to be a presenter. If you want to insure maximum success please read the following carefully and confirm back to me that everything is ok. Any questions, please contact me. Following is a checklist that has been helpful for others.

Check mark A short technical rehearsal either the night before or a half-hour before the day of
Check mark 1024 x 768 video projection system
Check mark Podium or stand with cable from the projector

My presentations are in Keynote format. All presentation content is stored locally on my Apple iPad. It is not possible for the content of the presentation to be sent in advance to be loaded onto a PC. I give the presentation from the podium using the iPad. It can not be done by using a house PC or by placing my iPad somewhere else and operating it via remote control.

I present using an Apple iPad which I will have with me. I have a dongle connector that plugs into the iPad and accepts the video cable from the projector. There are no “suspend” settings required on the iPad like on a Windows PC. The one setting that I can change is the iPad cover on/off setting. By setting this “off”, the iPad will keep a live video signal to the projector.

A content rehearsal is not necessary but a brief technical rehearsal is desirable to make sure the projector hookup works. Ideally this will be done either the night before or 30 minutes before the presentation if it is first thing in the morning, or at coffee/lunch break otherwise.

A large screen projection system is best. If this is not available a large (40+ inches) video monitor can suffice for a small audience. The video system should be able to handle output at 1024×768 (16,000 colors). The system should include a standard monitor cable that attaches to the CRT output jack from the iPad. The cable needs to be able to reach to the podium I present from. A podium that is a minimum of 42″ high is best. If presenting from a table, then a lectern stand (or cardboard box) to elevate the iPad really helps so I don’t have to bend over to manipulate my content.
